OMG. Another blog.: Lucky.

pamalotta:

This morning, a man was killed in Terre Haute when the dumpster that he was sleeping in was picked up by the trash truck. His wife is still alive, but severely injured.

I am so much luckier than so many other people.

I have a nice house and a warm bed.

And, even if things go totally to hell, I…

Yep- I need to remind myself of the good bits I still have and may have in the future. It’s hard to settle for much less than I used to have/do, but at least the warm bed, roof, partner and his income are there to shelter me from the ravages of the poverty.

A friend of mine just showed me this, you should look at it. It is absolutely hilarious! Take a minute to look at this. It has to do with a stolen laptop.

Trouble is, I seem to need a password to look at the blog contents! Bizarre!

How Does it Feel to Lose a Patient?
Dr. Lucy Doyle has worked with MSF in DRC and the Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya.
Most patients’ deaths are anticipated by their physician. The doctor may observe a constellation of findings leading to a particular lethal diagnosis, and the physician prepares the patient as well as him or herself for this impending loss. This is similar in the field and at home, though in the field it hurts more to watch someone die of something that might have been treated easily here in the US.

It also hurts in Australia to see uninsured American citizens begging for money to treat diseases like cancer, when they could have the treatment and hospitalisation for free in Australia.

Wiosna w środku zimy?? U mnie zawitała:) Hiacynty, amarylisy, szafirki i krokusy. Jeszcze w pąkach, ale już za kilka dni będę miał kwitnący stół!

I’m not positive, but I think I’m reblogging the work of a flower shop in Poland. Either way, it’s gorgeous. If I was rich — like extravagantly, can’t give the money away to charity fast enough because it just keeps drowning me like Scrooge McDuck rich — I’d have flowers like this around my house all the time.

Q. How do you get a philosopher off your porch?
A. You pay him for the pizza.

At one local university you get the philosopher off the porch by paying him to fix the lift!! (Adelaide, Australia)

"Standing at the corner with Christos and his friend Xavier, I looked across the street to see that yet another taqueria had been erased from the Mission, this one by a delicatessen, Wise & Sons, selling $13 pastrami sandwiches, leaving people on $5 budgets to seek burritos downstream. Gentrification is turning vulnerable residents into tumbleweed, and it’s gradually transforming the Mission. The change is slow, and mostly invisible, but you can see it in the changing food establishments."

Adriana Camarena, “Street Food.” (via utnereader)

It’s happening all over the world, to everything :( We all know families who live in cars because they can’t get anything cheap enough to rent.

"Maybe there is something you’re afraid to say, or someone you’re afraid to love, or somewhere you’re afraid to go. It’s gonna hurt. It’s gonna hurt because it matters."

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green (via quote-book).

Yep- most of the above.
